Norwegian-Estonian Research Cooperation Programme call had numerous applicants from Estonia and Norway

The Norwegian-Estonian Research Cooperation Programme call for proposals was closed on the 14th of March with 170 applications with around 48 million Euros as the total costs of the projects. The budget of the call is 2 958 333 Euros and this will be used to finance research cooperation between Estonian and Norwegian partners.

Among the 170 applications that were submitted 20 were from Estonian University of Life Sciences, 18 from Tallinn University, 51 from Tallinn University of Technology and 64 from the University of Tartu.

Altogether more than 100 Norwegian institutes and institutions participated in the submission of proposals. Cooperation with at least one research team of Norway is mandatory; among the most popular Norwegian partners were University of Bergen, University of Stavanger, University of Oslo, University of Tromsø, Bioforsk, Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA), Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

The results of this call of applications will be available in mid- August 2013. Projects financed from this call of applications can last from September 2013 until April 2016.

The overall objective of the Norwegian-Estonian Research Cooperation Programme is to enhance research-based knowledge development in Estonia through research cooperation between Norway and Estonia. A memorandum of understanding on the implementation of the Norwegian financial mechanism 2009‐2014 was signed between the Republic of Estonia and the Kingdom of Norway in June 2011. The aim of the financial mechanism is to contribute to the reduction of economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area and to strengthen relations between Norway and the Beneficiary State to the mutual benefit of their peoples.
