The PARROT co-operation program promotes cooperation between Estonian and French researchers

On March 19, the French-Estonian cooperation program PARROT travel grants application round was opened for 2019-2020. The deadline for submission of applications is 04 June 2018.

PARROT is a French-Estonian science and technology cooperation program, which is represented and co-ordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of France and the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia. The Estonian Research Council and the Department of Culture and Cooperation of the French Embassy organize work in Estonia.

The aim of the program is to develop research and technology cooperation between the two countries in all fields of fundamental and applied science, including humanities and social sciences. Particular attention will be paid to the areas of interest for both sides, namely ICTs, cyber defense, robotics, environmental sciences, biotechnology, materials science, nanotechnologies, linguistics. Since the first competition, the inclusion of PhD students and young researchers in projects is a priority for the program.

A public competition for joint research projects with a duration of 2 years is announced every two years. Co-operation partners must submit an identical English-language joint request to the responsible authority of both countries. The projects are evaluated by both Estonian and French expert committees. The final financing of joint projects will be decided by the Estonian-French Joint Commission.

The first joint application round for the PARROT program was held in 2002 and to date there are 110 applications submitted in eight public competitions, with 59 joint projects funded.
