Estonian Research Council awards 75 new personal research grants

Total 234 new applications were submitted to the Council in the call 2015 (141 exploratory grant applications and 93 start-up grant applications).  The Evaluation Committee proposed to award 54 new personal research grants (34 start-up grants and 20 exploratory grants) in 2015: 14 grants in biosciences and environment, 21 grants in natural sciences and engineering, 6 grants in health sciences and 13 grants in the area of culture and society.

The main budget for the call was 1.5 million euro but the Ministry of Education and Research could provide additional 4.1 million euros for the next 2 years. This additional allocation made it possible for the Evaluation Committee to award a number of 2 year grants in addition to the regular 4 year grants.

The Evaluation Committee also proposed to finance 21 new post-doctoral grants to the amount of 1.5 million euros. Out of those 21 grants, 4 are incoming and 17 are outgoing post-doctoral fellows.

The Evaluation Committee also proposed to open the 2016 personal grants call on 1 April 2015. Both personal grant and post-doctoral grant applications can be submitted until 30 April 2015.

The follow-up grant applications can be submitted from 1 September through to 30 September 2015.
